What is this insulation rebate about and how does it work?
“The basic aim of the Australian Government’s Efficient Homes package is to install insulation in up to 2.9 million homes with no or very little insulation”
The government is spending $2.7 billion and hopes this step will reduce Australia’s energy use as well as save householders from $200–$700 a year in energy bills and increase the comfort level and value of Australian homes.

This program first commenced with its announcement on 3 February 2009 under a rebate scheme. From 1 July 2009 to 31 August 2009 there were separate arrangements for homeowner- occupiers and rental properties.
However, the Homeowner Insulation Program now offers the same assistance of up to $1,200 to all eligible homeowner-occupiers, landlords or renters to install ceiling insulation.
This program came into effect on 1 September 2009 and will run until 31 December 2011.
Homeowners-occupiers who had ceiling insulation installed between 3 February 2009 and 30 June 2009 can claim up to $1,200, renters can claim up to $1,000.

So how does the Homeowner Insulation Program work?
It is specifically aimed at homes that are not insulated or that have very little insulation.
If you’re an eligible homeowner, landlord or renter the government agrees to reimburse you $1200 of the price of insulation.
And depending on the size of your home and the type and amount of insulating material required, that may be enough to pay for the total cost.
But in many cases that may just cover a percentage of the whole cost.
Also, you must make sure that you have the job done by a government-approved installer, but more about that later in the report.
